Safety guide

The right strength.
The right way.

Hydrogen peroxide is safe when used correctly. Concentration determines the care required. This guide covers everything — from daily 3% routines to 6% professional applications.

Rules of use

Do this. Not that.

These rules apply across all concentrations. 6% products carry additional cautions noted below.

Do
Read the full product label before first use
Use in well-ventilated areas, especially 6% products
Dilute 6% when applying to skin, teeth, or sensitive surfaces
Store in original container, tightly closed and upright
Keep away from direct sunlight and heat sources (above 35°C)
Wear gloves when using 6% for extended contact applications
Keep out of reach of children
Rinse surfaces with water after cleaning food-contact areas
Use within 6 months of opening for full potency
Consult a qualified practitioner before using on open wounds
Don't
Never mix with bleach (sodium hypochlorite) — produces chlorine gas
Never mix with vinegar or acetic acid — produces peracetic acid
Never mix with ammonia-based cleaners
Don't use in sealed, unventilated spaces at 6%
Don't pour back into original bottle after pouring out
Don't use near open flame — hydrogen peroxide is an oxidizer
Don't store in direct sunlight or clear containers
Don't ingest undiluted — for oral use, dilute as directed
Don't apply undiluted 6% directly to skin or gum tissue
Don't use on deep wounds or severe burns without medical supervision

By concentration

Know your strength.

The number on the label tells you the concentration and — critically — the care level required.

3%

Daily strength
  • Safe for general household cleaning and laundry as directed
  • Can be used on most surfaces without dilution
  • Medical grade 3% suitable for oral rinse when diluted 1:1 with water
  • Suitable for first aid wound cleansing (medical grade)
  • Avoid contact with eyes — rinse immediately if contact occurs
  • Do not swallow; for oral use, spit and rinse after use

6%

Professional strength
  • Dilute before applying to skin, teeth, or soft tissue
  • Wear protective gloves for extended skin contact
  • Ensure ventilation — do not use in enclosed spaces
  • For dental or wound use, consult a qualified practitioner
  • Keep away from heat and oxidizable materials
  • Never use undiluted for oral applications

Storage

Store it right.

Proper storage preserves concentration and prevents accidental reactions.

Keep the cap tight

Always close tightly after use. Exposure to air accelerates decomposition and reduces potency over time.

Away from sunlight

UV light catalyzes decomposition. Store in a cool, dark cupboard — not on a windowsill or bright counter.

Temperature below 35°C

Heat accelerates breakdown. Avoid storage near stoves, ovens, radiators, or in vehicles during summer.

Original container only

Never transfer to a different bottle. The original container is designed for safe storage of hydrogen peroxide.

Out of children's reach

Store in a locked or high cabinet. Keep all products out of reach and sight of children under 12.

Use within 6 months

After opening, potency gradually decreases. For best results and reliable concentration, use within 6 months.

Emergency

If accidental exposure occurs

Eyes: Rinse immediately with clean water for 15+ minutes. Seek medical attention.

Skin: Rinse with large amounts of water. If irritation persists, consult a doctor.

Swallowed: Do not induce vomiting. Rinse mouth, drink water, call Poison Control or seek emergency care.

Inhaled: Move to fresh air immediately. If breathing is difficult, seek medical attention.
